亞馬遜 Kindle 2 沒有通過無障礙測試

鼎鼎大名由亞馬遜推出的Kindle 2 文字閱讀裝置,號稱下一代電子書,市場反應佳。
可惜沒有通過無障礙測試,到底無障礙使用者需要甚麼樣的裝置,盲人的需求,肢體障礙者的需求,喑啞人等等的需求是甚麼,可能需要哪些科技,這篇文章有不錯的介紹。

剛收到胡老師寄來猶太真言原句,回想個人從事大學教學生涯14年,其中在業界數年時間,接觸過不少學生,還有ㄧ些職場年輕人。我的學生畢業後做什麼,做得如何,大致上在研究所這一兩年就可以看出來了。這些都讓我深深體會"習慣會形成你的性格,性格決定你的命運 "這句話。

真實的抱怨很重要

寒假中我們416電腦教室更換九台全新電腦,並且多部主機追裝記憶體,有幾台電腦螢幕更換為19吋LCD。其實這都是起源於一個大三同學在他的部落格抱怨416設備太差,即便他想好好寫作業,開機要五分鐘,螢幕跑線條,電腦常當機,因此感到非常沮喪。

我們聽到了,系主任與助教也投入了時間與資源,真實的抱怨很重要!

令人咋舌的本"所"獲得全國數學競賽優勝

今天騎腳踏車運動,路過一所經常路過的幼稚園,不過這次可是嚇到我了,ㄧ個偌大的紅布條,典型台灣流行的自我祝賀,上面寫著"本所獲得全國數學競賽優勝",沒看錯吧?! 心想: 放過這些小孩子吧!他們都不到七歲,有的才剛滿五歲,有必要這樣嗎? 我真希望哪天看到的不是數學競賽,不是直笛比賽,也不是大人歌曲助興下的制式帶動唱,而是小孩子自得其樂玩沙,堆東西,老師只要在旁看著就好。或是,兒童的教室只是供應無盡的顏料與畫紙,或讓小孩自由演戲,鎮日有陽光藍天綠樹鳥語為伴。

教育到底是為了滿足大人虛榮,還是滿足小孩,如果小孩從小沒好好玩過,沒天真過,沒瘋過,累積足夠快樂能量,以後哪來自信面對人生數十年的挑戰!

大人自己放手,也放過這些小孩子吧!

如何寫出一篇高水準的論文

我極力推薦這篇文章,原來期刊投稿指南也可以寫得這麼好。

開始擔任招生大使


昨天中午到新莊恆毅中學介紹中原大學電資學院,雖然往年多少會參與這種活動,今年改由專人(也就是我) 從頭到尾執行,預計造訪十所北桃竹苗高中,相對以前各院代表老師一起驅車同行,今年頗有天涯我獨行的感覺。

恆毅中學的學生很活潑,先到演講廳的同學都搶坐第一排,大出我意料之外(因為習慣了很多大學生早到搶最後一排,遲到才無奈坐第一排),會後大概有五六位同學留下來問問題,還相約九月大家中原大學見,真是可愛的一群高中生!

中原大學是很好行銷的一所大學,因為優點太多了,只是過去習慣了樸實無華,無意向外人道。演講前兩天,我大概花了2~3個小時就做好了投影片。

小心!『二手電波』就在你身邊

手機已經是很多人生活中不可或缺的東西,然而手機電磁波對人體到底有沒有傷害,ㄧ直是ㄧ個有爭議卻無定論的議題。2007年國際癌症期刊刊登一篇在北歐五個國家所做的一項大規模研究,針對使用手機超過十年以上者以及對照組進行罹患腦部腫瘤風險調查,年齡層從18歲到69歲不等,調查地區包含丹麥全國,對芬蘭百分之98人口居住區,在挪威則是針對人口較為密集的中部與南部地區,以及瑞典主要人口密集地區等等。其統計結果十分令人值得注意,使用手機超過十年以上者,罹患惡性腦部腫瘤機會增加百分之39。此外,2000-2003年間在德國針對30-69歲罹患惡性腦部腫以及對照組所做的研究調查發現,使用手機超過十年以上者,罹患惡性腦部腫瘤機會增加百分之120。這些調查結果提醒我們不能忽視手機使用上的安全,應該小心避免成為手機重度使用者,儘可能減少手機使用時間,以確保自身的健康。

早期的手機天線多半外露,近年來手機設計朝向風行隱藏式天線設計,這類手機在通話時藉由手機背面的隱藏式天線輻射電磁波與附近基地台通訊,經由量測結果發現這類手機從機背所發射電波強度為手機正面的四倍之多,也就是說手機在通話中時,射向鄰近的電波遠比射向使用者自身的電波為強,尤其在擁擠的捷運車廂或是緊鄰而坐的火車與長途客運車內,如果乘客在通話中,面向機背的鄰座乘客無形中可能暴露在比手機使用者更高的電磁輻射,這種情況與二手菸類似,也就是與吸煙者共處ㄧ室時,不吸煙者所吸入的二手菸危害每每高於吸煙者本身。在車廂或室內緊鄰而坐時,使用手機者無形中成為『二手電波』的製造者,將高強度的電波射向緊鄰機背的不幸受害者而不自知。這種情況隨著通話時間拉長,暴露於電磁輻射時間將會增加。

近年來,通訊業者為了促銷與競爭,推出越來越多的網內互打免費方案,無形中鼓勵用戶多加使用手機,於是在捷運車廂內或是長途火車從上車一直講到下車的乘客屢見不鮮,無論是高談闊論,接洽生意,或是戀人情話綿綿,常令鄰座旅客不得安寧。因此在室內或車廂內使用手機時,除了應該放低音量,輕聲通話,同時為了身旁的人,也為了自己的健康著想,更應該長話短說,減少製造『二手電波』,以降低手機電磁輻射的暴露時間。

至今沒有研究結論顯示手機使用會對健康造成立即的危害,然而也沒有證據顯示手機絕對不會造成健康上的風險,過去長久以來很多人將手機是否會對健康造成危害視為簡單的是非題,然而以上所提到的北歐以及德國的大規模手機用戶研究,對手機如何影響健康提供了一個較新的視野。在手機使用者年齡層上,很多國家為了國民的健康,寧願採取較為保守的作法,包括英國、德國、法國、比利時、俄羅斯、義大利、以色列等國,都已提醒兒童青少年及孕婦少用手機,近年來台灣六至十八歲的學童及青少年使用手機情形已經非常普遍,由於學童及青少年都尚在發育階段,孕婦與胎兒也可能較容易受到電磁輻射的影響,因此我們呼籲民眾,當身邊有兒童青少年或是孕婦時,應該避免使用手機,尤其不可將機背朝向兒童青少年或是孕婦。此外,人人有權拒絕成為二手電波的受害者,當身邊有人長時間使用手機通話者,應該注意彼此距離是否過近,或是正好朝向機背,適當採取自身防護措施,減少暴露於手機電磁輻射,降低健康上的風險。

國內對於手機使用,安全預警觀念一向偏低,採取一些預防措施總是好的,我們建議在能夠使用固網電話時,應當避免使用手機,除了可以節省通話費,也減少不必要的手機電磁波暴露。我們也建議在可能的情況下使用與手機相連接的耳機接聽電話。此外,在電梯,牆角等小而封閉的環境裏使用手機,會使手機輻射強度增大,因此應盡量在收訊良好的地方使用手機。

最後為了手機使用上的安全,我們要提出以下幾項呼籲
1. 孕婦與兒童青少年應該儘量減少手機通話時間。
2. 手機通話時,請輕聲細語,並且長話短說。
3. 二手電波可能有礙健康,通話中勿將機背朝向鄰人。
4. 身旁有孕婦與兒童青少年時,最好不要使用手機,或是到其他地方使用。
